Questions to Transform Your Writing Life by Rochelle Melander
This morning when I opened my email, I was drawn to the headline in Cheryl Richardson’s weekly tip: The Right Question: One simple self-care tip to change your life. The question Cheryl encourages readers to ask themselves: What can I do to make (myself) happy?
I love it! So often when I plan my day, I am asking myself, “What SHOULD I do today?” I rarely think about what activity will lead to feeling happy.
As we end 2012, it is helpful to ask ourselves questions about what worked this past year and about what we hope for the year to come. So pull out your journals. Find a cozy spot and take some time to reflect. Over the next few weeks, I will be offering you questions that I hope will transform your writing life.
Here’s your first set of questions. Think about your writing life in the past year, and reflect on the following questions. Be as specific as possible.
*When was I engaged with my work?
*When was I passionate about my work?
*What practices added to my productivity? (Please define productivity in any way that works for you: writing more words, beginning and completing pieces, putting in a certain amount of time, etc.)
*What practices or situations challenged my ability to be productive?
*Based on the above, what would you like to do more of? Less of?
That’s it for this week! I’ll have more questions to transform your writing life next week. Happy reflecting and happy writing!
