That’s it.

From my days as a theatre major at Concordia College, when I wrote my first play, to today, as I finish writing my 15th book, I’ve had the same why. Though I’ve worked as a spiritual leader, teacher, writer, and coach—everything I’ve done has grown from this why: I tell stories and I help others share their stories with the world. When I walk into a classroom or a coaching session, I know why I am there: to help you discover and share your story.

The One Question that
will Transform Your Writing

Last week, I invited you to define your WHAT by asking this question:
What’s the one thing I can do, such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?
Then you considered HOW you would accomplish this task.
Over the weekend, I had a huge “AHA” moment: when the how gets tough, many of us give up on our projects. So, now matter how deeply we believe in our story, blog, or book—our what—when we can’t figure out how to find time to write, land an agent, get published or reach readers, we stop. We give up on our WHAT.
And here’s the AHA: the people who overcome these kinds of blocks do so because they know and believe in their WHY.
They know: why they write, why they wrote this story, and why it matters. That belief keeps them going even in the most challenging moments.
So here’s your one question: Why do you write? (Or, more specifically, why are you telling this story?)
