NaNoWriMo: Take Yourself Seriously

The first time I did NaNoWriMo, I created a book cover for my project. I slipped the cover inside the plastic pocket on the outside of the three-ring binder that I was using as a story bible. Every time I looked at that binder, I remembered why I was doing this—to become a novelist.

This year, my daughter created several book covers for me—both for Write-A-Thon and for my NaNo project, a series of chapter books about two best friends, Evie and Joan. This year, I’ve taped the cover my daughter made above my desk. It reminds me that I have a reader waiting to see what happens next. On many days, that is the only thing that motivates me to get up and get writing!
