Countdown to NaNo: Last Minute Preparations!
What are you planning to do this weekend? No doubt I will be trick or treating with my children. But I will also be doing my last minute prep. Here are three things you can do this weekend to guarantee that you rock your NaNo.
1. Get snacks. Last summer, when I caught my teenaged son eating my dark chocolate, I realized that I needed my own stash of food. I’m not saying where I’ve hidden it. Just know that I have a nice little collection of tasty treats tucked away for NaNoWriMo. Do yourself a favor. Get to the grocery store and stock up on snacks and your favorite caffeinated beverage! I’d hate it if you had to write on an empty stomach.
2. Get sweats. I don’t know about you, but I can’t write when my waistband is cutting off my circulation. Thankfully, I have a whole drawer full of fleece washed and ready for NaNoWriMo. Planning one’s NaNo wardrobe is less about making a fashion statement and more about staying comfortable and cozy so that we can amass a crazy amount of words. Wash the sweats, set out your comfy shirts, and get ready to hunker down and write!
3. Get some rest. Marathon runners are encouraged to rest their muscles for the two days prior to running the marathon. This allows their muscles to hold onto their store of glycogen until the race. Writers, the next month will test our endurance. Take the opportunity to rest, read, and relax before you face that daily word count goal!
Your turn: What are you doing this weekend to prepare for NaNoWriMo? Leave your tips below.
What am I doing to prepare for NaNoWriMo?
I’m cheating by starting early. 500 words this morning before work and I’ll be bashing out similar wordcounts over the weekend first thing in the a.m. before anyone else gets up.
That’s a great idea! There is nothing like words in the bank!
I’m eagerly anticipating NaNoWriMo! I’ve already done my outlining. I’m going to stock up on snacks, get some sleep and attend a kickoff party to get myself in the NaNoing spirit!
Sounds like a great plan. I made an apple crisp yesterday, and, of course, there is always Halloween candy!
Have the snacks & fleecies all set. But last minute shopping for easy meals & staples & cleaning the house so I don’t have to worry about it. And lots & lots of sleep.
Fleece! Perfect. Yes, I am saving mine for November. Good luck!
I am reading through ‘Self-Editing For Fiction Writers’, and using the advice for next month. I am also trying to go through my research, and see if I missed anything that is crucial to know before I begin writing.
I should consider stocking up on rest though!
I love the idea of stocking up on some extra sleep! If only I had an outline! 🙂 Thanks for the tips.
I don’t like the word ‘cheating’ but I’ll be looking over the outline and character profiles I drafted six months ago and then abandoned! They’ll form the basis of my first Nano attempt.
Sounds like a great plan. Have a wonderful NaNo!
