Why Write-A-Thon? You can do it!
Welcome writers! We are counting down to the launch of my new book, Write-A-Thon: Write Your Book in 26 Days (And Live to Tell About It). Why write-a-thon? Because:
1. Deadlines work.
2. It’s cheaper than therapy.
3. You have something to say.
4. We need to hear your story.
And today’s reason:
5. You can do anything for a short period of time!
When I was in labor with my first child, I asked one of the nurses how long she thought it might take before the wee one arrived. She told me, “Don’t think about how long it will be. Get through this contraction. You can do anything for a minute.” Something shifted in me. I stopped looking at the clock, trying to estimate how many hours it would be before the baby appeared. Instead, I stayed present in the moment and concentrated on breathing through each contraction.
People tell me all the time that writing a book in 26 days—or even a month—is crazy. Maybe it is. But here’s the thing: anyone can do crazy for 26 days. And if writing a book sounds daunting, simply focus on writing one scene or one paragraph at a time. Before you know it, those paragraphs will add up to a book.
So go for it. Sign up for NaNoWriMo or sign on to complete another write-a-thon. You can do ANYTHING for a short period of time!
For more inspiration and awesome prizes come to the Write-A-Thon book launch at Boswell Book Company on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 PM. There will be cake!
