About the Program
After years of writing and editing books at a breakneck pace, I’ve discovered that I like marathon writing. Although I can and have taken longer to write a book, I appreciate the focus that emerges when time is tight. In a deadline-bound writing marathon, all the crap of daily life falls away and the essential emerges. Plus, it’s just easier to clear out one’s schedule for a month or a series of weekends and work like crazy than to try to fit writing into everyday life.
Plenty of people have written books marathon style. Chris Baty, founder of National Novel Writing Month, believes that the deadline stands between most writers and their books. He created National Novel Writing Month to provide wannabe writers with the deadline they needed to complete a book. It worked. Every November, writers across the country participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) by writing a 50,000-word novel in thirty days. NaNoWriMo has given writers a once-a-year deadline for twelve years. Now you can get that deadline every month with Write-A-Thon, the proven writing program that gives writers the rush and accountability of a marathon without all the sweating.
How does it work?
Name your big hairy audacious writing goal (or even your teeny-tiny bold writing goal) and post it on your member page. Schedule your marathon and set your personal word counter. Then write and record your daily word count. Buddy with other writers to track each other’s word count. Post your member badge on your blog or on your Facebook profile to let other people know what you are doing. At the end of the write-a-thon, show the world you're a winner: grab a winner badge and post it. At the end of each write-a-thon, your counter resets to zero—so you can name a new goal and keep track of it all over again! Wow!
